Our management team makes sure that every aspect of the company is running smoothly so it can best serve you, our customer. Take a minute to learn about our team, and you’ll see why Calico excels at what we do.
Mark Wurzel, President and CEO
Mark is honored to follow in the footsteps of his father by leading Calico Cottage. When he joined the company in 1974 after earning his MBA from Cornell University, Calico Cottage had just four employees and was struggling financially. Mark’s vision and leadership have turned the company around. During his 18 years as CEO, sales have tripled. He is a devoted husband, father and grandfather and holds a patent for the Whirzle frozen fudge drink. Peanut butter chocolate is his favorite flavor of fudge.
Larry Wurzel, Vice President
Larry is all about innovation and customer connection. He has expanded the number of fudge flavors to more than 200 and developed sucrose free fudge for diabetics. Larry is great at creating tasty add-in ingredients, and he developed our program to bring fudge to fairs and festivals. He joined Calico Cottage in 1977, after he received his master’s from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management. He is always happy to share his favorite flavor of fudge, banana nut, with his wife, son and two stepdaughters.
David Sank, Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President, Sales & Marketing
David has a knack for understanding customers’ needs and boosting sales. He joined Calico Cottage in 2010 after four years at Oneida Ltd., where he played a key role in reinvigorating its flatware brand. He brings more than 20 years of experience to Calico from his leadership positions at Kraft Foods Inc., Campbell Soup Company and General Mills Inc. David is more likely to talk about his two daughters than his MBA from Harvard. His favorite flavor of fudge is pumpkin pie.
Steve Nagle, Vice President of Manufacturing
Steve has the sweetest job in the world. He oversees Calico Cottage’s fudge production, making sure everything that emerges from our factory is consistently of the highest quality. He’s well equipped for this vital task: He joined Calico Cottage in 2009 after nearly 30 years with Entenmann’s, most recently as vice president of operations. He has an MBA from Long Island University and can’t resist mint chocolate swirl fudge.
Michael Lobaccaro, Chief Financial Officer
Michael is Calico Cottage’s fearless numbers cruncher. After a decade as vice president of finance at Bellco Health, a pharmaceutical wholesaler, he joined Calico Cottage in 2009. He is a specialist in finance and tax matters, holds an MBA from Hofstra University and has more than 25 years of corporate experience. Michael is delighted to be working for a company that makes mouth-watering fudge. His favorite flavors are cookies and cream, anything with chocolate, and banana, which he describes as “phenomenal.”
Tom Montoya, Senior Vice President, Information Technology
What top-quality ingredients are to Calico’s fudge, Tom is to our sophisticated computer system: absolutely essential. His experience includes more than 20 years of technology leadership, including technical instruction and education for the U.S. Coast Guard and dean of technology at Long Island’s Briarcliffe College. He has a master’s degree in computer science from the Polytechnic Institute of New York University and will gladly fix any computer problem for a slab of peanut butter and chocolate fudge.
